Camford University (CU) Notes

In addition to lectures and classes, students are taught by faculty fellows in groups of 1 to 3 on a weekly basis.
Students receive direct feedback on weekly essays or work in a small discussion setting.

Colleges: (note most offer a mix of classes, not strictly those within their fields)

* Manchester College - Biology and Medicine (life-based research)
- Began as Warrington Academy in Manchester in 1757, run by English Presbyterians
- Moved to York in 1803, back to Mancester in 1840, then to Camford in 1853
- Joseph Priestley, credited with discovery of oxygen
* Trinity - Chemistry and Physics (most technological research)
- nominally mathematics at Cambridge but we have Christ Church and the atomic bomb reference is too sexy to pass up
* Wadham College - Geology and Earth Sciences (ecology, agriculture, botany, etc.)
- Relatively large gardens compared to those of other colleges
- Notably queer-friendly compared to other colleges
- Notables include Robert Blake (Cromwell's admiral), libertine poet John Wilmot, Warden John Wilkins
* Christ Church - Mathematics and Civil Engineering - Lewis Carroll teaching, Dean Liddell (father of Alice)
* Clare - Fine Art, Drama and Music (theater)
- hosts the campus newspaper, the Clarefication
- holds the largest May Ball in the middle of June
* Blackfriars - Philosophy and Theology - a monastery staffed by Dominican monks
* Exeter College - Archaeology and Ancient History (Egyptology)
- Many writers including the future J.R.R. Tolkein were associated with this college
- has its own choir made up of 24 singers
* Pembroke College - Current History and Anthropology (Oriental Studies)
* Downing - Law and Political Studies
- fields teams in a range of sports including football (UK), rugby, and tennis
- successful boat club
* St. John's College - Psychology and Education (social sciences)
- the home of a scandalous invite-only dining/drinking society, the King Charles Club
* St. Catherine's College - Classics, Modern and Medieval Languages - main library
- Founded in 1473 as Katharine Hall, notable for its open court, wheel motif
* Queens' College - Economics and Management
- Spans both sides of the river, colloquially referred to as the 'light side' and 'dark side', connected by the Mathematical Bridge
- Silver boar's head badge

* All Souls' College - a graduate research institution admitting postgraduates only
- Every hundred years, generally on January 14, the Mallard feast
